pcworld.co.uk Review

PC World desktop, laptop and tablet displayWhen searching for a new PC, laptop or internet device the majority of us will instantly think of PC World. PC World was founded in 1991 with its first store in Croydon. In 1993 the company was bought out by what was then known as Dixons Group plc (now known as Dixons Retail plc). At the time of the company purchase there were four existing stores, there soon followed an expansion that would see many more stores open their doors to the public. This expansion was due to several acquisitions such as the 1996 purchase of DN Computer Services and quickly followed by the acquisition of Byte Computer Superstores Ltd. The company saw good profits of around GB£1,695,000 in 2004/5 but this was not to last. In 2008 the company reported their first losses.

PCWorld has faced several controversies in the past some of which were somewhat damaging to the business brand. They have received poor criticism for their customer support as well as issues surrounding the advertising of products which where actually not available in store at the time.

Despite the harsh criticism that the chain has faced throughout their trading, they have remained competitive in a very difficult economy. They still continue to attract new customers and are one of the biggest technology companies out there.
