More About Thorntons
Thorntons started its rise to fame in 1911 when Joseph William Thornton opened his first shop in Sheffield in October 1911. He soon handed this to his 2 sons Norman and Stanley who quickly made a name for themselves, the rest is history.
The Thorntons Chocolate Cabin sold old time favourites such as Kunzle cakes, Sweet Lips, Curiously Strong Mints and delicious Mackintons’s Toffee Deluxe. Easter eggs followed some time later in 1922, decorated with icing names then delivered and sold in all four Thornton’s shops at that time. The brothers started making the Thorntons Special Toffee brand a short time later in 1925. By 1934 the brothers had opened their purpose build factory and office on Archer Road, Sheffield, employing around 40 staff and by 1938 were operating from 35 stores around the UK.
Thorntons celebrated their 100th in 2011 with over 600 stores throughout the UK selling its famous Continental chocolates and Special Toffee products which have proved popular for many years with customers young and old. Customers can shop online for fast home delivery or for reserve and collect from a local store.
